In-Home Personal Training

By Bindu Nambiar, NYC Personal Trainer / Strength Coach

Maximizing Personal Training Results with Minimal Equipment

As a NYC Personal trainer with over fifteen years of experience in the fitness industry, I recognize the importance of a well-equipped home gym. Here are my top five picks of equipment for an efficient in home workout.

The top five training tools for in-home personal training are and anti-burst swiss ball, an adjustable aerobic step with multiple sets of risers, a great set o dumbbells, a set of platemates, and a spine roller.

Swiss Ball

This versatile piece of equipment can be used in place of a flat bench, incline bench, or chair. It improves balance, coordination, and strength by challenging the stabilizing muscles of the abdominals, lower back and glutes, and shoulder girdle.

Examples of exercises that can be performed on a Swiss ball are: dumbbell chest press, seated shoulder press, abdominal crunches, and hip extensions. When purchasing a Swiss ball, look for a ball that has anti-burst properties.

Adjustable Step

An adjustable step works as a station for multiple exercises. A step is essential for lower body strengthening exercises that develop glutes, quadriceps and hamstrings strength. It can be used as a step up platform, a plyometrics box, and as a platform for various upper body exercises such as triceps dips and decline push-ups.

On the following page, we’ll discuss the core of every in-home gym set up: dumbbells.
